Conditions of Occupancy: Cornish Commons is located on the campus of Cornish College of the Arts. Intern housing is available to any person who was enrolled at an accredited college or university during, immediately previous term/semester, or upcoming term/semester individuals. You do not need to be enrolled at Cornish College of the Arts. As part of the application process, you will have to provide a .edu email address as verification that you are a student at a college or university.
Availability: Cornish Commons is available for housing on a rolling basis during the summer. After we have received your application with arrival and departure dates, we will confirm space availability for those dates. For summer stays, we typically have availability starting the second week of May until through the second week of August.
Requests for extensions on either end of the summer season are granted on a limited basis due to academic year availability.
There is no application fee and the contract will follow your application, so there is no risk in applying!
Contract: Once we have received and processed your application, we will send a contract for you to sign. You should expect the contract about five (5) business days after submitting your application.
Rent Payment: The rent payment for your entire stay is due on or before arrival; before you check-in to your room. The Flat Rate for your Summer Stay will be included on your initial signed contract. We have a strict no pay, no key policy at check-in. All residents will be able to submit payment multiple ways including: online payments (card, bank information) or in person (check only).
Roommates: If you select a double room and have a roommate that will also be staying at Cornish Commons, please note your roommate on your application. All contracts are individual. If both roommates each sign their respective contracts, we will work to pair them together as roommates. If only one roommate completes a contract, or roommates are offered different room types, we would not be able to accommodate that roommate request.
This year, we will also be using the software MyCollegeRoomie. After you apply, you will receive login information to complete your profile. This software allows summer residents to see other residents, their profiles, have conversations, and ultimately select a preferred roommate. If a summer resident decides not to use this platform, they will still be randomly assigned a roommate, but we will take MyCollegeRoomie profile information into account.
Room Furnishings: Your room comes furnished with a bed frame, extra long twin mattress, chair, desk and dresser. It does not include linens. If you need linens or other room items, there is a Target within walking distance of Cornish Commons.
Rooms without a kitchenette feature a MicroFridge, which is a combination of microwave and mini-fridge.
Please check out the What to Bring page for more information.
Parking/Transportation: We do not have onsite parking. However, we are centrally located in downtown Seattle with easy access to the SoundTransit system which includes buses, Link light rail, streetcars, and the Washington State Ferry system. If you do want to bring a vehicle, parking in a downtown garage will cost about $250 a month. There are a few parking garages near Cornish Commons. We do not have any affiliation or discounts with any garages and often suggest a google search and reviews of the area.
